Ich komm gerade aus meiner Stammkneipe. Da haben wir heute mal so philosophiert und uns gefragt, warum die exkremente (KOT) von Vögeln eigentlich weiss ist??? Kennt jemand eine Antwort???

Ich denke mal, wichtiger ist, dass es immer Flitzekacke sein muss (welcher Vogel kann sich 5 Minuten auf dem Topf leisten?). Die weiße Farbe ist da eher Nebensache und entsteht soweit ich weiß durch den enthaltenen Urin.
Echt? Urin und Rest ein Ausgang? Wir haben mit 15 mann diskutiert und keiner kam drauf! An den Urin haben wir gar nicht gedacht!
Hoffentlich bekomm ich keine schlechte Bewertung für diesen Thread!
Und ich habe Biologie abgewählt.
Das interessiert mich aber jetzt echt. Genau wie die Frage, was mit den Steinen passiert ist, die auf unserem Kirchenvorplatz gelegen haben und nun durch neue ersetzt worden sind
Das kann ich dir leider nicht sagen, bin aber auch zweite Woche "trocken".

Why is it that most bird excrement is white? I am new docent for nature hike with 4th graders. They find scats on trail fascinating. Most scats are black or dark. Bird excrement/scat, e.g. raptors, etc. are often pure white and very liquid? Why?

The answer to this question is difficult to put into terms that a fourth grader would understand, but I'll give it a try: One of the components of food that the body needs to get rid of is nitrogen. Mammals get rid of nitrogen in their urine by making a yellow compound called urea (that's why urine is yellow), it takes a lot of water to flush urea out of a mammal, so that's why urine is mostly water. Birds don't urinate, they conserve moisture by absorbing almost all of the water in their wastes before they let it out. They still need to get rid of the nitrogen in their food though, so they transform it into a compound called uric acid which is made of microscopic white crystals, this is what turns their poop white. The reason that raptor poop is so liquidy is because they don't pass bones, fur or feathers through their digestive tract, they cough up pellets which contain these wastes.
If there is a rock where lizards usually hang out, you can show the kids the lizard poop. Lizards are like birds, they make uric acid and that is why their poop always has a little white cap on one end. You can also smash the dry lizard poop and show the kids the wings, legs and heads of the insects that have passed through the lizard.
