How do you set the transparent background color in a GIF file?

I poked around a bit in Photoshop and I tried to find an answer in the Photoshop Help Program.

But I thought I would also post this question here.

How do you set the transparent background color in a GIF file?

You can save for Web (not sure if the name is the same in the english version)

There you can select one color and set this one to transparent. See att pic from the german version.

other option:
when creating a new file, the background is set to white by default. you can either choose "transparent" here, or delete the background layer (which is usually locked) before saving the file.
